Side effect of BC: Break through bleeding is a term used to describe bleeding in between menses in a woman who is on hormonal birth control. It is usually something that occurs in the first few months of starting a new method of birth control and will usually go away by itself. If it is very heavy or lasts more than a few months, let your doctor know.
