Spread of disease : Metastatic is a term used to describe a disease that has spread from its initial point. It is primarily used with regards to tumors that have started to arise at multiple places in the body, most frequently by spreading through the bloodstream.

Spread : Metastasis usually refers to spread of disease from its original site to a remote site in the body. This term is usually used in reference to malignancy (cancer) however could also be used for infectious diseases.

Stage 4 Cancer: Metastatic cancer is cancer that started in one place (like the breast), but has spread into other places (like the liver, lung, bones or brain.) it is also called stage 4 cancer. It is usually not curable, but many people live with metastatic cancer for years with ongoing treatment.
