What makes glands swell all the time?

Monitoring Centers: Lymphatic system absorbs/carries things too big to go into the arteries/veins like bacteria eaten by white cells and digested food. Lymph nodes "taste" the lymph for anything bad like bacteria/viruses/cancers, etc. When it detects a problem, it alerts the immune system and your body reacts. They enlarge in response to the inflammation they create when they react. They shrink when all is well.

At least monthly neck/groin glands swell up. Both sides of groin glands get infected - have hidradenitis. Is it coincidence the 2 occur at same time?

Dx w/ benign salivary gland tumor on palate. Why does it vary in size at times? It's flat and spread out at times and then dia gets smaller and swells up? I can push my tongue through the center of it and divide it. Below swelling is a deep cavity.
