How good is the injection of steroids for low back pain?

50-50 proposition: Injection of steroids into the epidural space for relief of non-cancer pain has a 50% success rate independent of pathology. Success may last days, weeks, months or, rarely, longer. There is no credible medical literature supporting routine series of 3 injections. If the first one doesn't work, most likely more won't either. Facet injections are another matter with a lower success rate.

Depends: There are different types of injections: into or around joints, round the nerves, in the canal containing the sac of nerves. Effectiveness will vary, depending on the severity of the disease, how much of the spine in involved. In the right person, it can help about 70% of the time. It is usually combined with exercise, therapy, pills.
