A member asked:

Is getting a very irritated eye after biking in the wind the same thing as a corneal abrasion?

No: A corneal abrasion is a scratch on the cornea, the clear front surface of the eye. After biking your eyes are likely dry from all the wind and that is causing the irritation. Artificial tears may help.

No, but...: A corneal abrasion can be caused by foreign objects scratching the surface of the eye. Such objects can be whipped up into the air on windy days or can get into the eye when biking fast. Corneal abrasions can also occur from exposure, such as the eye drying from lack of lubrications. But an dry, irritated eyes can feel this way without an abrasion being present.
