50mg: In the xr form there is 50 mg of drug compounded in such a way that a portion of the drug is released into your system continuously over, in this case, 12 hours. The equivalent dose could be obtained by taking a total of 5 10mg pills, one every two hours. 50mg is 50mg but the xr form makes only a small amount available to your body at a time saving you from having to remember to take pills all day.
