Depends...: Discontinuing a drug abruptly can cause side effects just like taking one can! Especially with a stimulant, like Adderall, (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) the opposite bodily reactions can occur. Some patients do stop the medication for the weekend without problems. However, this is on a case-by-case basis. It also depends on the formulation being taken (XR or long acting vs immediate release) and dose.
