A member asked:

What does it mean if you have a salty taste in your mouth when eating ice?

Don't eat ice: Chewing ice is the number one cause of tooth fracture. As ice forms, any na+ and cl- ions will migrate away from the ice and into the water that remains (salt = sodium/na and chlorine/chloride/cl). When it melts, the salt gets re-absorbed, making the ice taste salty. Stick to sucking on ice cubes, not chewing on them.

Nothing: It is not a symptom of anything.

Best not to: Chew ice. Can be very damaging to teeth. Ice from ice-makers often have a metallic taste. Could also be from the water used to make the ice. Hope this helps.
