Different things: Different, unrelated conditions. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic life-long inflammation & ulcer formation afftecting the wall of the entire colon, treated with anti-inflammatory type medications. Diverticulitis is a temporary condition of localized infection of small pouches in a small portion of the colon, treated with antibiotics. Rarely surgery for either condition, but very different operation.
