Nope.: Only an oral anti-fungal medication can get rid of a fungus toenail. Remember also, not all thick, discolored nails are fungal. The first "step" (sorry) is to have a culture. Not mesopotamia as a culture, a fungal culture. Oral Lamisil (terbinafine) has been shown to be much safer than we originally thought it was. Hope this helps.

Not a good choice: Bactroban (mupirocin) is a powerful topical antimicrobial agent. For fungal infection of the nail, you need a good antifungal. Seeing a podiatrist or dermatologist will provide better treatment options.
