Will mri scan detect a broken nose?

Not a good choice: While MRI may show swelling around the area of a broken nose it is limited in showing the anatomy of the small bones themselves. Plain xrays, ct, and even ultrasound are better choices.

CT scan: Not the best xray. CT scan or plain film nasal series better. Best thing for broken nose is clinical exam. If ok by exam, no treatment indicated. See facial plastic surgeon.

MRI is unnecessary: X-rays and other imaging studies are usually unnecessary. Your doctor may recommend a CT scan if your doctor suspects you may have other injuries. Good luck.
