Low back: Quite often numbness in just the big toe can be a result of a radiculopathy. The nerve roots in the low back where we often acquire pathology e.g. Nerve root compressions herniated or ruptured disks l4, L5 can cause numbness namely in just the big toe.

Nerve involvement: If the big to alone is numb, it usually is due to impingement of the nerve running along the side of the toe. This is common in the presence of a bunion or bone spur in that area.

Usually: Pressure from nerve around joint area. Could be caused by improper shoes, trauma bunion etc..
