What does nerve root effacment mean?

Nerve being pressed : Effacement means that the nerve is being compressed hard enough that it actually changes the shape of the nerve- rather than a round structure, it is being flattened. This is often secondary to a bulging intervertebral disc, but can be caused by other masses lying next to the vertebral column.
