Cortisone creams: Most allergic skin rashes (eczema, allergic contact dermatitis such as poison ivy, insect bites) respond to topical corticosteroid creams. Hydrocortisone 1% is effective for mild conditions, and there are stronger products which are available with a prescription. If the rash is from hives, oral antihistamines, such as allegra, zyrtec, and Claritin (loratadine) should work. If it does no respond, see an M.D.
