Pigment &/or shadow: Pimples result in a breakdown of the skin and cause a scar. Any scar can get hyperpigmented, i.e. darker, for six months and sunscreen of spf 15 or greater helps to protect against the pigment changes. Chemical lightners help. The scar can also have a depression from the plane of the surrounding skin. When light reflects off of the scar, it appears darker & resurfacing methods help to even scar.

Elusive: If it was easy to get rid of acne, nobody would have acne! depending on what type of acne you have, anything from topical treatments with benzoyl peroxide, sulfa compounds, retinoids, antibiotics, etc., to combinations with oral antibiotics or oral retinoids, etc. May be used.

21st century Rx: You deserve to be free of acne if that is your wish. I start with topical Clindamycin plus either benzoyl peroxide if there are few blackheads or a retinoic acid derivative if there are many. The oral contraceptive pill can clear up acne if a woman can and want to use it. Failing, a systemic antibiotic right for the person usually works, and dermatologists have the big guns today.
