My bf had a strep test and was positive. is there any chance it could be hiv symptoms and not strep? if it was hiv would the strep test be negative?

You sound worried.: Dear cuttlefish. I assuming that he had the rapid strep test & a throat culture. It sounds like you are very worried that there is mistake in his diagnosis. Positive strep tests don't mean that a person is HIV positive. I suggest that you explore your concerns - especially with your boyfriend.

Yes: If HIV the strep test would be negative.. There is a very low chance that a positive strep is a false positive. I'm sure it is strep.

Strep test: A positive strep test refers only to the strep organism. You can have a positive strep test and still have HIV and you can have a negative strep test and have hiv.
