People with celiac suffer from a wide range of severity of symptoms. Yes, some are malnurished. Others have mild intermittent abdominal pain, some have fatigue and yet others have rashes as their main problem.

There are variable degrees of involvement even without avoidance of gluten. Of course, once celiac disease is recognized avoidance of all gluten-containing foods resolves in resolution of intestinal injury, malabsorption and malnutrition.
