Poison Ivy: About 50% of people who come in contact with poison ivy or poison oak develop an itchy rash. Usually this begins within 12-24 hours after contact -- sooner if more urushiol (the plant oil that causes the reaction) gets on your skin, or if you're very sensitive to it. Even more severe reactions are possible if the plant is burned and you inhale it.
