Can the scan on the abdomen detect pregnancy?

Depends: It all depends on the type of scan and the gestational age of the embryo or fetus...But remember... "scans" that use radiation such as a ct should not be used if possible while pregnant due to potentially harmful effects of radiation on the developing embryo or fetus. For this reason, essentially all centers will first screen a woman of child bearing age with a pregnancy test before ordering a ct.
