You can ask...: ... But you probably will not get the prescription. As healthcare providers, we need to justify the reason for all the medications we prescribe, and dental fillings are not high on the list of procedures causing extreme post-operative pain. Prescriptions are closely monitored due to abuse, and i'm sure you can understand the reasons why. Otc pain meds should work just fine.

No need or reason: Hydrocodone is a narcotic and there is NO reason that a drug of this type is needed for a dental filling. Dental fillings are simple and a painless procedures!

If you're asking : For hydrocodone as part of the analgesia for the procedure, yes you can ask but probably not necessary with local anesthetic

You can,: but after the dental filling procedure there is no injury or severe pain to justify hydrocodone prescription.

Yes: Every patient's pain threshold is different and you might need something stronger after dental work. Talk to your dentist. I have done that when I get to know my patient and there is certain trust

Hydrocodone: Nowadays there is an abuse of prescription drugs and a reliance on the use of excessive pain medication. I have never or never will prescribe hydrocodone or similar narcotic for discomfort for a filling. If there is that much pain, further treatment is required on the tooth instead. I would also reflect on your reliance on pain medication.
