Dr. Karen Han answered

Seborrheic dermatiti: Dry flaky skin behind the ears is more likely due to seborrheic dermatitis, a condition that is cause by excessive colonization of a common yeast called pityrosporum ovale (or malassesia furfur). Treatment typically involves reduced colonization, such as the use of head and shoulder, Nizoral (ketoconazole) or selsun blue shampoos. Lather and leave in for 5min then wash off.
