Nerve irritation: It sounds very much like nerve irritation. Further history and exam is needed to determine more specific cause of your problem.

In addition to: Dr. Kass' good answer, sometimes problems involving nerves higher up, like the lower back or upper leg can cause strange sensations down in the foot. Your pmd or podiatrist, after a brief exam, should be able to tell you whether this sensation is coming from something higher up.
