Wat cud be the cause of hypothyroid for babies? is this hereditary or acquired?any preventive measure to take for the baby?

Mostly congenital: Hypothyroidism in the newborn may be caused by:missing or poorly developed thyroid gland(sometimes absent or in wrong place or ectopic)pituitary gland not stimulating thyroid gland or thyroid hormones incorrectly formed and not working correctly.Usually detected at birth with blood testing. If infant receives thyroid hormone supplements, baby develops normally neurologically and physically.
