A member asked:

What exactly is a tia, and how many can you have before "the big one" strikes?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mini-stroke: Transient ischemic attack..Basically a small stroke with symptoms resolved within 24 hrs. If symptoms longer than 24hrs = stroke. Tia significantly increases risk of getting a big one, especially first 30 days. You don't have to have TIA before a big one strike! TIA is a very big warning and so do all you can to reduce the risk...Treat diabetes, cholesterol, HTN etc.. Consult doc... Good luck.
