Age in which seen: Wisdom teeth are caused such, simply because of the time in which they are seen in the mouth. Since they are the last teeth to erupt, they are viewed as 'older', when in reality, they are the 'newest' teeth seen! so, since they're the last to develop, and the person is oldest when they get them, they're called wisdom teeth !

Historically: They were called teeth of wisdom prior to being called wisdom teeth. Since they typically erupt later in life (age 17 onwards), it is believed that we are wiser when they erupt. Hope this helps.

Age: Because general eruption time is around 21 years of age when a person is supposed to become wise. Today, due to our jaws getting smaller most wisdom teeth do not erupt properly. Regardless of other advice mine is that if there is not enough room for them in the mouth they should be removed while a person is relatively young-before they cause problems.

Reason: It is generally thought among linguists that they are called wisdom teeth because they appear so late, at an age when a person matures into adulthood and is “wiser” than when other teeth have erupted. Make sure your wisdom teeth are evaluated and treated by a board certified oral surgeon
