Water and fiber: Take in plenty of water, and a fiber supplement such as metamucil or fibercon. This should help with it, but if not better, see your physician for an exam and diagnosis.

Water,fiber,exercise: Water. Fiber. Exercise. Walking, jogging, elliptical glider, swimming, sit ups can all help. Laxatives can be used for a one time situation, but many doctors don't recommend them. Long term laxative use damages your intestinal tract and creates first dependency then later total inability to defecate. I remember manually disimpacting several such patients when i still did general surgery.
