Unconscious: With a knock out, there is a definite loss of consciousness. With a concussion, there may or may not be a loss of consciousness. Frequently with a concussion, the patient may be awake during and after the incident. They may still have a dazed appearance and not be able to answer questions appropriately (the sidelines test).
