Asthma: Asthma is not detected on chest xray, it is usually normal. Your doctor probably heard you wheezing and they can a lung function test to confirm. First you need to stop smoking. Make this your priority. Then follow your doctor's advice on the medications to use. Then control your acid reflux as it can worsen your asthma.

Not by x-ray: Asthma is not diagnosed by a chest x-ray and thus your gp is more likely to be correct. If you do have asthma however, the medications you are not are not the correct one. Need to quit smoking also since it often makes anti-asthma medication less effective.
