Depends: It depends on the type of arthritis. In a 20 year old patient, osteoarthritis is highly unlikely. But, some of the other arthritides that are inflammatory in nature can have an early age of onset. If it is a persistent problem and you have a family history of these types of illness, then it is reasonable to have it checked out.
