Two implantations: Twin pregnancies can occur with one or two amnions and one or two chorions. The twin pregnancies with the least complications have two amnions and two chorions. The most complications occur in twin pregnancies with only one of each membrane.

Diamniotic Twins: Twins that have two separate amniotic sacs are called diamniotic twins. This usually means that they are fraternal twins (arise from two separate fertilized eggs) but in some cases they can be identical twins (twins form from a single fertilized egg that splits in the course of development).

Twins: Twin fetuses in two sacs doesn't tell you if they are fraternal twins or identical twins. If they share the same placenta and have a separating membrane that is very thin, they are identical. If there are two separate placentas and a thick separating membrane they are fraternal.
