Counselling: This is a great question for pre conceptual counselling.... In general we do keep pts on their anti seizure meds during pregnancy, but some are safer than others.... Go and see your doc for a discussion about this.

RISK FACTORS: There is always some risk of fetal anomalies when taking a medicine for epilepsy, and the risk maybe around 3%-5% but your two drugs are likely somewhat on the low side. However, if you do become pregnant and have a seizure, risk to baby is very high, so you need your meds. Discuss fully with both an obstetrician and pediatrician.

Meds and pregnancy: Both Keppra (levetiracetam) and Lamictal are pregnancy category c drugs. This means that animal studies have shown deficits in animal studies where mothers are give these drugs. Speak to your neurologist about medicaions that are safer than these 2.
