New pregnancy: A negative or zero bhcg or pregnancy test must be a blood test. A zero bhcg by blood test cannot give a positive hpt ( home urine pregnancy test) from the same pregnancy. A urine test that reads negative can indeed be a false negative only to be positive a week later from the same pregnancy.
