A member asked:

In an attempt to diagnose illness i have had 7 ct scans in 2 years . because of new upper abdominal right side pain dr ordered hyda scan. should i be concerned about the radiation?

Yes: I would not be concerned about hida scan radiation as it is not ionizing one, but i would be very concerned about ct scan radiation, because this is the bad one. No more ct scans unless absolutely needed.

Clearly: 7 scans in two years is a lot. Only your doctor can explain the medical necessity. As to the risk, that always needs to be balanced against medical necessity. The population risk of 7 ct's is 7 fold higher your personal risk of about 7 in 10, 000 remain quite low.
