Vision issues: Optometrists are good for general eye exam and prescribing eye glasses. If s/he thinks something beyond this, refers the patient to ophthalmologist who has the highest degree, md in this field. More thorough exam. And additional tests might be needed. So, see the ophthalmologist, preferably who deals with children.

High myopia: A high degree of myopia, or near sightedness can be associated with various degenerations in the eyes, especially the retina. She may also have found amblyopia, also known as "lazy eye" which may require treatment in order to attain full vision. Please see the specialist eye md. Your child will have to live her life with the decision you make.
