Mri done for rib lesion. started w/o contrast then finished w contrast after checking w dr. radiology asked me if blood work also done. why ask?

Not sure why he asked, but when reading an xray or ct scan if he had a suspicion for something in particular, supportive labwork would be helpful guiding his decision.

Blood work would help determine your kidney function. People with low kidney function can be at risk of negative effects of contrast.
