ABit; HDL IsNotChol.: But HDL are complex protein particles, 80-100 proteins/particle, which accept fat molecules from cells which need to export fat. The particle concentrations are measured in μmol/l, good values for total HDL would be in the 40's and for large-hdl particles, >9 μmol/l. Hdl-c is promoted as a way to estimate HDL particles ; function but does not reliably correlate, especially on an individual basis.
