A member asked:

Can long term trauma in childhood cause apathy in adulthood?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It may be depression: Apathy can be a symptom of depression, which childhood trauma can, for sure, cause. Depending on the trauma, duration and age when it was inflicted, it generates many toxic emotions hidden in the deep recesses of the unconscious. It ends up affecting many, sometimes unexpected, aspects of one's life. Best advice, talk to a psychotherapist asap. If this is depression, to a psychiatrist too.
