Pain level: The decision for knee replacement should be made based on your level of pain and possible deformity to the knee secondary to arthritis. I am a physician that believes a knee replacement should not be limited by age. If a 50 year old needs a knee replacement then it should be done. I would build up the muscles around the knee which will help during the rehab process. Be in the best shape possible.
