A member asked:

Help please! is chewing gum essentially a workout for your jaw?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, but...: It's not a healthy workout. Chewing gum can lead to many jaw problems, such as temporomandibular disorders, including myofascial pain and internal derangements of the jaw joint. If you don't have a TMJ disorder, it's probably ok, but i advise all my patients to discontinue gum chewing if they have any jaw pain or popping.
