Dr. John Chiu answered

Skinnier: They usually look no different from other people especially if they avoid gluten but may look ragged and thin if they continue to consume gluten due to impaired ability to absorb many nutrients from the diet.

No: People from all walks of life and any size or shape can have celiac disease. This is an immune related defect that involves a person's immune system forming antibodies to wheat gluten that cross react with their intestinal tissue leading to injury. If they continue to consume the offending proteins, their body has more symptoms. If they avoid them, they can live a normal life.
