Uric acid to joints: Uric acid crystals can build up in the joints due to too much uric acid in the blood. Uric acid crystals trigger a immune-mediated inflammatory reaction, causing pain, swelling and redness of the joints, which is experienced as a gout attack. High levels of uric acid may be due to hereditary reasons for uric acid overproduction, underexcretion, diet and medications.
