Lower uric acid!: Start treatment with low dose cochicine and an anti-inflammatory drug like naproxen. Start on low dose Allopurinol after several days, gradually increasing dose to 300mg/day, or that dose which lowers uric acid to 6.0mg% or less. Gout is curable!

See answer details: Uric acid does not cause joint pain but gout does. If you have just aching it is not gout. If you have episodes of major joint pain and swelling it may well be gout. Gout can easily be treated and prevented. See a rheumatologist.

Joint pain / gout: Rest joint. Keep it warm. Take NSAIDS. Colchicine also thwarts attack. Tart cherries and juice also can.

Aleve (naproxen): Generally a nonsteroidal antiinflammatory such as Aleve (naproxen) will work. One needs to know if diagnosis is correct. If no improvement in 3-5 days, see your doctor.
