Sore: Intraoral canker sores will heal in 7-10 days on their own. If one goes away and another pops up in a different place in your mouth this is recurrent apthos ulcer and you should see your md (ENT) or an oral surgeion to treat and to diagnose. If it is extraoral on your lip abbreva is otc and works well.

Prevent canker sores: The specific cause of canker sores(or apthous ulcers) is till unknown. Usually they occur when the immune system is weakened. So the best way to heal them is to avoid getting them. Supplement with vitamin c(500 mg four times daily) and vitamin e (400 iu twice a day) and a multivitamin with magnesium and zinc(taken in the afternoon or evening for best absorption). Avoid stress. Eat breakfast.
