Pain in Mid Back: Can indeed be coming from a facet from a degenerated level, however, most patients with 'peri-scapular' pain, or pain around and under the shoulderblade from cervical degeneration and facet problems in the neck. Sometimes even due to referred pain from nerve impingement in the neck. Find a good orthopaedic spine surgeon to evaluate you and find the cause. Xrays do not show discs/facets. Good luck!

Thoracic pain: Mid back pain can be from a localized issue from/near your thoracic spine (muscle, disc, bone, etc.) or from a referred area such as your cervical spine. X-rays can show facet disease or joint space narrowing suggesting disc disease...But better imaging modality is an mri. Considering 5 months of pain, i suggest an MRI if possible.
