Can't say if...: ..This child has meningitis or not. It's less likely if he's properly vaccinated. Meningitis is an infection of the lining of the brain. It has many causes, the most common of which we vaccinate against beginning at age 2 months. Although you can catch many illnesses working with babies, i'd be more concerned that you would give it to him than that he'd give it to you.

Even in the...: ...Unlikely event that the 1 year old has meningitis, the kind of meningitis 1 year old is likely to have is different from the adult variety. Also, children in day care should be fully vaccinated.
