Cystic acne: This could be cystic acne, a severe form of acne that causes permanent scarring. Over the counter acne meds are usually not effective. Get to a dermatologist right away, or have your primary physician evaluate your condition and treat it. Often an oral (rather than otc topicals) medication is needed to treat this.
