Here's why: One of the saddest facts about human beings is that most of us want to just accept the authority of someone who seems wise and good. It takes away the burden of thinking for ourselves, and makes us feel morally, intellectually and spiritually superior to others. When you choose something to believe in, at least choose something that squares with science ; common decency ; lets you ask questions.
