A member asked:

Is it possible for a person to be unable to fall asleep with anesthesia regardless of how much given?

No.: The difficulty in some people is that the dose that puts them to sleep is too close to the dose that makes them forget to breathe, needing hospital facilities around them to survive the experience.

Anesthesia: Not really. The medicines that are used today are extremely effective. We are able to not only get patients asleep in all cases, but we are able to keep them comfortable through their procedure and wake them up at the end. Without anesthesia, we wouldn't be able to surgery. For some of us, we perform a lot of procedures and rely on anesthetics in the clinic and the or.

No: Eventually all patients will sleep with anesthetics. Although, some patients are more resistant to the meds than others and may take longer. If you are resistant to anesthetics, you can request to have a bis monitor which would indicate your level of consciousness / unconscioussness. Good luck.
