A member asked:

Will an antibiotic ointment help a boil that has not entirely bursted?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Maybe, maybe not: External applications of abx ointments can help stop the spread of the boils germs once it empties, but is unligely to get inside the boil and kill the germs.Appling moist heat to the area often brings the boil to a point it will drain and then heal. Keep the area clean and it should heal well.If you have multiple boils or they recur frequently, oral meds may be needed to eliminate the source.
