A member asked:

What is the treatment for frostbite that is best and has fewest side effects?

Rewarming: Frostbite is, quite simply, frozen tissues. Depending on how severe the frostbite (i.e. How deep the freeze goes), the treatment can range from simply rewarming to in-patient treatment similar to burns to amputations and long recovery times. If you have frostbite, you should see a doctor right away.

Rewarming: The best approach is to place the limb in warm, not hot water, and gradually rewarm. Do not rub with snow. Elevate the limb and give pain medications such as tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen. Seek medical attention as soon as possible.
